The former chairman of the Harvard Graduate School of Design Department of Landscape Architecture, Sasaki also founded an interdisciplinary design firm that bears his name. The Foundation leverages design to tackle global challenges, especially those that adversely affect historically underrepresented communities. The Foundation focuses its grantmaking on the following areas: Proactive Approaches to Climate Adaptation, New Models for Housing, Innovation in Transit and Access to Mobility Choices, and Creative Community Building.
