Description

The Organization was founded in 1922 to champion the freedom to write. It recognizes the power of the word to transform the world, and works to unite writers and their allies to celebrate creative expression and defend the liberties that make it possible. The PEN/Jean Stein Grant for Literary Oral History supports a literary work of nonfiction that uses oral history to illuminate an event, individual, place, or movement. Grants may be used to help maintain or complete an ongoing project and oral history must be a significant component of the project and its research. Scholarly or academic writing is not eligible. Visit the Web site for additional information and application instructions.
