DescriptionThe Foundation is committed to funding projects with the most potential for bolstering the long-term economy of North Carolina, especially in tobacco-dependent, economically distressed, or rural communities. The Foundation has two standard grant programs: Open Grants Program and Economic Catalyst. Open Grants Programs are open to all government entities and nonprofits that propose projects in the Foundation’s priority areas – agriculture, economic development, workforce preparedness, health care, education, and community vitality. Letters of inquiry for the Open Grants Program are accepted throughout the year. Economic Catalyst grants is open to government entities and nonprofits with projects that will create jobs at risk without Foundation funding. Grants are awarded for public infrastructure, job training, upfit for buildings owned by governmental or nonprofit entities, or equipment acquisition where the building or equipment will be leased or sold at fair-market value to a company creating jobs. The Foundation also awards grants in its Hurricane Florence Recovery program. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
