Description

The Foundation supports both innovative and practical programs that improve the accessibility of mental-health services for the poor needy, offer preventive and early-intervention strategies, and advocate for systemic change with local or national impact. The Foundation offers both direct service and non-direct service grants. Direct service grants of up to $75,000 will be awarded to programs and projects that provide a direct service such as case management, assessment, counseling, psychotherapy, psychiatric care, training, or jobs, housing, or other supports to people and communities working to address significant mental illness. Non-direct service grants of up to $250,000 will be awarded in support of strategies that seek to create changes in the law, public policy, or the perceptions and practices of the public and private sectors responsible for improving mental health care, particularly in unserved or underserved communities; efforts to share research findings, best practices, and knowledge related to improving the mental health system and safety net; and activities that provide learning and skill-building opportunities for mental health providers, advocates, people living with mental illness, policy makers, and family or community members who are seeking to deepen understanding and knowledge, treatments, or social change efforts related to mental illness. Eligible applicants must be a nonprofit serving metropolitan New York or Philadelphia; although the foundation does provide support for advocacy at the national level it does not currently support programs focused on intellectual or physical disability. Additional information including application instructions can be found on the Web site.
