DescriptionFounded by a banker, the Foundation focuses its grantmaking on the arts, education, and health and human services organizations. Funding priorities within the arts include arts education for the underserved. Funding priorities within the education category include improving school readiness and attendance; aligning out of school time programs to students’ individualized scholastic goals; improving grade-level achievement in reading and math; enhancing on-time high school graduation rates; advancing work and life skills, and providing access to higher education. Funding priorities within health and human services include improving access to basic human needs including affordable housing and food; increasing access to affordable healthcare including physical, dental, and behavioral; advancing the safety and well-being of children; and reducing domestic violence, substance abuse, child abuse, and neglect. Grants are awarded within South Dakota, with preference given to western South Dakota and the Black Hills region. If the proposed grant will directly assist people within the preferred geographic are, the Foundation will consider proposals from outside the area.
