DescriptionThe Library Leadership and Management Association, a division of the American Library Association (ALA), awards the annual John Cotton Dana Award, the most prestigious award of the ALA. The Dana Award honors outstanding library public relations, whether a summer reading program, a year-long centennial celebration, fundraising for a new college library, an awareness campaign or an innovative partnership within the community. Named for John Cotton Dana, the father of the modern library, who is credited with helping transition libraries from reading rooms to community centers, the Award considers strategic library communication campaigns from all sizes and types of libraries. Libraries are encouraged to submit samples of their processes, research, media releases, media coverage or other results their program has received as well as an evaluation of the result and other documentation and supporting materials that show the scope and effectiveness of the strategic communication effort. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
