Description

The Foundation’s Education and Entrepreneurship grants seek to foster “a society of economically independent individuals who are engaged citizens, contributing to the improvement of their communities.” The Foundation focuses its grantmaking on two areas: education and entrepreneurship. In its K-12 work, which is focused in the Kansas City area with an emphasis on the urban core, the Foundation strives to support a diverse group of schools that serve as proof points of high academic achievement among low-income youth. The Foundation also supports outcomes-based programs that ready urban students for success in college and careers, and advance science, technology, engineering, and math education for students throughout Kansas City. The Foundation also provides funding for Teach for America, the KC Stem Alliance, the Kauffman Scholars and more. Entrepreneur grants support numerous efforts that provide entrepreneurs the knowledge, skills, and networks they need to start and grow businesses including programs for underserved populations, and for innovators in science and technology. Undergirding the Foundation’s work is an extensive research and policy program that is ultimately aimed at helping the Foundation develop effective programs and inform policy that will best advance entrepreneurship and education.
