Description

The Foundation was formed by modern artist Robert Motherwell to foster the public understanding of modern art and modernism through its programs in arts education, research and publications, archives and conservations and exhibitions, as well as in the guardianship and study of Robert Motherwell’s art. The arts education grants support symposiums and lectures, K-12 programs, community-based programs, residencies, fellowship programs, and educational programs at museums, art schools, colleges, and universities. Research and publication grants support scholarly research on modern art and modernism, exhibition catalogues, and the publication of scholarly books and periodicals. Archives and conservation grants support projects focused on the science and practice of the conservation and restoration of works of art, and the processing, description, cataloguing, and preservation of archival materials, as well as oral history programs. Grants in the curatorial programs support exhibitions of modern and contemporary art as well as programs in curatorial studies. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
