DescriptionThe Foundation supports nonprofits and government agencies throughout the state of West Virginia and in southwestern Pennsylvania (Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, and Washington counties). The Foundation generally invests two-thirds of its grant dollars in West Virginia and one-third in southwestern Pennsylvania. The Foundation makes grants in two program areas that span both states: education and economic development. Education grants focus on academic achievement and preparation for the 21st century workforce. Economic development grants emphasize projects that promote technology-based development as well as growth and accessibility for new capital for businesses in distressed communities and areas of high unemployment. The Foundation also awards grants in West Virginia for community development and health and human services. In southwestern Pennsylvania, the Foundation supports the major performing arts organizations within the area’s cultural district. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
