Description

The Department’s SunShot Prize aims to spur low-cost rooftop solar installations across the nation. The Prize will support novel public-private partnerships, original business models, and innovative approaches with the goal being to achieve cost-competitive solar by 2020. The Prize is a cash award given to the first three competitors that deploy at least 5,000 new rooftop photovoltaic installations at an average pre-subsidy non-hardware cost of $1 per watt. Interested teams can now register to participate and begin tracking their installations. In order to officially qualify for participation in Phase 1, teams must receive concept paper assessment letters from the Department during the pre-submission period, which ends Dec. 31, 2014. The first team will win $7 million; the second team will win $2 million; the third team will win $1 million. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
