Aaron And Lillie Straus Foundation

Category

: Regional

Description

The Foundation was founded in 1926 with money from the Reliable Stores Corporation with a dual focus on rescue and relief of Jewish communities and families throughout the world. It also focused on connecting children in the Baltimore region to opportunities that could help them build strong and secure futures. Grants are awarded for Jewish community services; families, children, and youth; and building infrastructure in the nonprofit sector. A fourth program area, Art and Culture, does not accept unsolicited proposals and makes small, annual unrestricted operating grants to a variety of institutions which help build a vibrant Baltimore. Jewish community services grants are focused on rescue and relief for unstable Jewish communities throughout the world as well as support for fragile, Jewish families and children living in the Baltimore region. Families, children, and youth grants are focused on connecting fragile children and families living in the Baltimore region to those opportunities that can best ensure a secure and productive future. Building infrastructure grants are focused on sector-wide issues in the state of Maryland including: encouraging and enhancing strategic philanthropic investment from underperforming pockets of wealth; increasing awareness and opportunities to connect the region’s best and brightest with careers in public and human service; build the management capacity of the sector; and help nonprofits better achieve more balanced revenue portfolios through income-generating opportunities. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
