Description

The Academy’s Shade Structure grants are targeted toward the purchase of permanent shade structures designed to provide shade and ultraviolet ray protection for outdoor areas and outdoor locations not protected from the sun, for example, pools, playgrounds, and eating areas. The program awards grants of $8,000 to organizations (either a nonprofit of public school) that serves children and teens ages 18 and younger. The organization must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to sun safety and skin cancer awareness by having a sun safety/skin cancer awareness program in place for at least one year prior to applying. And the organization must be sponsored by an Academy member dermatologist. Grant recipients must work with a shade structure manufacturer or contractor who can design and install a shade structure that meets various criteria outlined on the Web site.
