Environmental Support Center
Category: Environment
DescriptionThe Center’s mission is to promote the quality of the natural environment, human health, and community sustainability by increasing the organizational effectiveness of local, state, and regional organizations working on environmental issues and for environmental justice. The Center defines its priority constituency as environmental justice organizations, as well as environmental networks and coalitions composed of environmental justice and/or activist groups. The Center’s three grantmaking programs are: general capacity building support, technology resources, and fundraising for sustainable organizations (FUNDS). The General Capacity Building Support program has funding available for environmental groups engaging in freshwater work east of the Mississippi, watershed groups working to improve the Mississippi River, and environmental justice groups in California and the greater Houston, Texas area. The Technology Resources program provides customized technology assessment, hardware and software, and training and support. The FUNDS program offers technical assistance, planning and implementation grants, and loans to help organizations diversify their funding. It also helps groups establish a solid plan and address their choice of fundraising challenges such as choosing a database, recruiting and using volunteers, developing an earned income stream, or creating a sophisticated membership renewal and retention system. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
