: Public Policy

Description

The Foundation was created in 1989 by leaders from the small telecommunications industry who wanted to address the education and development needs of rural areas. The Foundation’s mission is to promote activities that improve rural educational, social, and economic conditions in the U.S. and Canada. Grants support rural schools and community development projects as well as college scholarships. One of the most popular and competitive of the programs is the Technology Grants for Rural Schools. This program helps meet the growing need for innovative technology in the classroom. The grants strive to help rural, public schools connect to high speed broadband, bring modern computers into every classroom, and ensure effective, engaging software and online resources are an integral part of the curriculum. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
