Membership: Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do we need to be a registered nonprofit
organization in order to join? Is 501(c)(3) status a
requirement?
A. 501(c)(3)
status is NOT required to become a member of the
Society.
Q. If we are an organization, do we have to
purchase the "Organizational Membership"?
A. Organizations/Companies
are NOT required to purchase an "Organizational"
membership. You are welcome to purchase an
Individual/Electronic membership. Purchase the membership that
best suits your needs, regardless of its name.
Q. How long will it take to get my
login/password?
A. Membership applications are processed
automatically. You should receive your login information via
email within 1 hour of joining. If you experience any
problems, please call us at
734-451-3582.
Q. When will I receive my first issue? A.
Nonprofit World magazine is published every other
month. Funding Alert is published on a monthly
basis. Therefore, it may take 1-2 months to
receive your first issue (depending on when the last
issue was sent out). If you want to get started
right away, you can view the most recent issue of both
publications in the Members Only section. Q.
What is included in the Members Only section? A.
The Members Only section features an archive of
Nonprofit World (from 1996+) and Funding Alert (from
2001+). The Nonprofit World archive is searchable
by category, title, author and date of publication. Q.
Do both subscriptions of an "Organizational
Membership" have to be sent to the same
organization? A. No. These
subscriptions may be sent to whomever you like.
The second subscription may be sent to an entirely
different organization/address. Q.
How safe is it to pay online by credit card? A.
The Society for Nonprofit Organizations takes the issue
of security very seriously. We use 128 bit SSL
encryption with Thawte digital certificates. This
level of encryption is the strongest commercially
available level, and is used to protect your information
as it crosses the Internet. Nevertheless, we
understand that people are still skeptical about the
Internet. You are more than welcome to submit your
membership application by mail/fax. We have
provided a PDF form that you can print off and send in
for those that prefer this method. Q.
My question has not been answered here. What
should I do? A. If your question is
