Description

The Foundation is accepting applications for the Nancy Smith Reynolds Award. The award recognizes uncommon leadership of North Carolina residents whose vision, determination, resourcefulness, and strength of character have caused them to succeed when other individuals might have failed. Award recipients are “unsung heroes,” individuals who have accomplished extraordinary good in their communities, usually with limited resources, and in spite of the odds. Each award is accompanied by a grant of $25,000. The award recipient will receive $5,000 and the remaining $20,000 will be distributed to North Carolina nonprofits that the recipient selects. Up to three awards will be presented annually in the following categories: advocacy on behalf of people, issues, or concerns that otherwise may be without effective voices; personal service for people helping other people; and race relations for persons who have acted in ways to bring about improvements in multiculturalism in a community. Race relations awards will also honor those who have served as role models of racial understanding and cooperation. Nominees must be residents of North Carolina. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
