Description

The Foundation invites charter and parochial schools to submit preliminary information on their plans and initiatives to develop or enhance efforts to adopt and strengthen comprehensive, sequenced, content-rich core curricula. The objective is to build general knowledge in grades K-8. Applicants’ projects should improve academic content by providing a coherent, sequenced, content-based curriculum during the regular and extended school day hours as well as during the summer. The curriculum should address a wide range of classical liberal subjects including literature, history, ethics, mathematics, and the sciences. The Foundation traditionally supports organizations and schools within the greater New York metropolitan area, but is expanding its funding boundaries to include schools and organizations from communities along the Northeast Corridor and as far west as the Mississippi River. Communities should have populations of less than 500,000. The Foundation’s Trustees believe that supporting educational organizations that deliver content-based core curricula, operating parallel to existing systems, will over time demonstrate the necessity, value, and validation for such curricula. The Foundation requests that a letter of inquiry be sent via email. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
