Needmor Fund
Category: Social Change
DescriptionGuided by its mission statement, “to work with others to bring about social justice,” the Fund supports people who work together to change the social, economic, or political conditions which bar their access to participation in a democratic society. The Fund also encourages involvement in community affairs by those whose participation has been systematically denied. Its grantmaking seeks to foster the active participation of all citizens in crafting a vision, values, and policies that are more equitable, to guide the operation of our country. Applicants should be multi-issue, well managed, membership-based, and broadly run; organize primarily low and moderate-income people; and build power. Other characteristics of interest include balancing issue work with organization building and engaging in concrete action. While 50 percent of the Fund’s grantmaking is earmarked for national organizations, it also operates a regional grantmaking program. The concentration of cluster resources is in two regions: the Southwest (AZ, NM, Southern Calif., and South Texas) and the Southeast (AL, MS, and LA). Topics of interest for the Southwest cluster include immigration and labor. In the Southeast cluster, race polarization, immigrants, and building regional clout are of interest. The deadline is for the regional programs. Additional information, including a pre-application form, is available on the Web site.
