Mertz Gilmore Foundation

Category

: Social Change

Description

The Foundation’s Human Rights in the U.S. program explores the viability of the international human rights framework for the realization of social change and justice in the United States. The U.S. government’s “historical antipathy” toward applying international human rights standards within the U.S. and the general public’s lack of knowledge about human rights are the drivers behind this new approach. The Foundation will support projects that demonstrate what human rights can accomplish in the U.S., training that builds human rights capacity, and networks and coalitions that build and strengthen linkages across issues and/or constituencies. Applicants are asked to submit a brief (up to three pages) letter of inquiry. Projects will be considered across the broad spectrum of human rights including economic, social, and cultural as well as civil and political. Funding will support a variety of constituencies and/or methods.
