International Paper Foundation

Description

The Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the paper company. It supports organizations in the communities where its employees live and work. Most of the grantmaking is earmarked for educational projects, specifically environmental education, literacy, and minority career development. Environmental education grants support programs focused on young children and outdoor classrooms, forestry, and air and water quality programs. Literacy programs of interest include those that teach English as a second language and programs enhancing children’s reading skills. Minority career development programs should target women and minorities and emphasize careers in manufacturing, engineering, or forestry. Also of interest are outreach education programs for minority youth with college potential. Employee involvement grants should come from employees for charitable organizations where they volunteer their time and effort. Requests must be in alignment with the company’s strategic interests. The individual submitting the request must be a member of the organization’s board of directors or actively involved with the organization for at least the past six months. The Foundation will also support “seed” money for unexpected community needs. All applications must be submitted to the local International Paper Company for review. Application guidelines are available on the Web site. Phone and e-mail solicitations are not accepted.
