Description

The Foundation, founded by Harry Scherman, the creator of the Book-of-the-Month Club, focuses its grantmaking on general support. They believe that strong nonprofit leaders who are closest to the issues can best decide on the most effective use of grant funds. The Foundation’s areas of interest include the environment, human rights and liberties, peace and security, reproductive rights and services, the arts, and social welfare. Under the arts and social welfare categories, preference is given to New York City organizations. The Foundation does not accept proposals via fax or the Internet. Applicants are asked to send a letter of inquiry. Additional information is available on the Web site.
