Description

The Power of Flight Bird Conservation Fund is a partnership between the Southern Company, its four operating companies, and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. The Fund is interested in funding the following types of projects: habitat restoration and management; environmental education involving birds, particularly in urban areas; nature tourism development; and applied research with direct implications for management and conservation. Priority will be given to projects that build new or enhance existing partnerships and those that address conservation needs of species characteristic of the southern United States. Organizations in Georgia, Alabama, Florida Panhandle west of the Apalachicola River, and Southeast Mississippi’s 23 counties from Meridian to the coast, with the west boundary running from Pearl River County to Union County, are eligible to apply. All grant awards require a minimum of 1:1 match of cash or contributed goods and services, of which at least 50 percent should be from non-federal sources. A preproposal form can be found on the Web site. The deadline is for preproposals.
