Description

The Foundation emphasizes care for the environment in its grantmaking. The Foundation’s directors believe that conserving special places in the environment and providing public access to those conservation areas is a desirable end in itself, but it’s also a means of building public support for future land and river conservation. It’s easier to gain support for environmental conservation if people see the direct connection between themselves and the environment. The Foundation’s grantmaking provides project grants for making trails and other enhancements of public access to conservation lands, rivers, coastlines, and other natural resources. The Foundation also funds land acquisition for conservation as well as related education programs and publications. It offers assistance in establishing endowments as a means of funding stewardship of conservation areas. The Foundation encourages proposals from municipal government agencies and nonprofit organizations with a demonstrated local impact in precollegiate education. Grantmaking is limited to New York State and New England. Additional information is available on the Web site.
