Description

The Foundation makes grants in the areas of educational opportunity, health and mental health, and human rights. Human rights grants seek legal strategies to ensure fair treatment of immigrants and asylum seekers in the United States. Conflict management strategies that encourage dialogue and diplomatic solutions to complex international political problems are of interest. The Foundation also awards grants for international human rights advocacy efforts for health and mental health. Of particular interest are grassroots efforts. The Foundation will consider on an emergency basis and in collaboration with others, limited-time projects that respond to urgent humanitarian and human rights crises caused by natural disasters. Educational opportunity grants seek to improve educational opportunities for underserved children in kindergarten through grade 12. Preference is given to initiatives in Baltimore and New York City. Topics of interest for the health and mental health grants include mental health treatment programs; initiatives that integrate physical and mental health; and community-based health and mental health care. Initiatives in Baltimore and New York City are given preference.
