Dr. Seuss Foundation
DescriptionNamed for the author of children's books, the Foundation's mission is to be a catalyst for improved literacy, broadly conceived, through strategic partnerships and investments. The Foundation supports evidence-based programs which increase the number of children who enter school ready to earn and thrive and who are proficient readers by the time they enter fourth grade. Grants are awarded to programs for improvements in instructional quality, educational staff support, early education service, program expansions, strong healthy starts for children and new parents, expanding access to programs and information support caregivers in their role as their children's first teacher. In addition, grants seek to support programs that offer children extended learning opportunities that expand upon strong in-school teaching and learning; programs that integrate creative youth development (i.e. art education); and environmental education. The Foundation primarily makes grants to organizations that support projects located within San Diego although the nonprofit does not need to be headquartered in San Diego to be considered. Additional information including application instructions can be found on the Web site.
