Description

The Trust was established to achieve social and economic progress in Britain and throughout the world. For over 100 years, the Trust has supported organizations promoting social change and improvement. Currently, the Trustees focus their limited funds on economic development rather than service provision. Trustees favor work such as small business support and training, and microfinance in both urban and rural settings. The Trustees welcome appeals that support and protect street children and community-based organizations that ensure the voice of poor and marginalized women and men are properly heard and respected. The Trust's geographical focus is in Africa. Currently they favor projects based in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Sudan, and South Sudan. Within these locations, the Trust gives priority to work with communities living in urban slums and semi-arid regions where economic hardship is most extreme. The Trust considers requests from registered civil societies in Africa or those based in the United Kingdom that might be diaspora organizations based in the UK. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
