The Nippon Foundation
Category: International
DescriptionThe Foundation is the philanthropic outcome of revenues from motorboat racing. Funds are awarded for four priorities: public welfare in Japan; voluntary projects in Japan; maritime and ship-related projects; and overseas cooperative assistance. The Foundation’s overseas grants for maritime and ship-related projects are awarded for cross-border or transnational activities; regional projects that may fall outside of the reach of the public sector or other donor agencies; and initiatives to “tackle pressing issues and long-range or persistent problems that require prompt and systemized care.” Proposals should have a pragmatic and realistic approach; potential for future development and self-sustainability; far-reaching social and regional impact; pioneering significance; and a diversity of races, classes, gender, enthnicities, social classes, and societies. Applicants must be located outside of Japan, may be regional or international NGOs/NPOs and include educational and research institutions. Applications are not accepted by fax or e-mail.
