Description

The Foundation is named for the founder who built a real estate empire as one of the largest private owners of residential, multi-family properties in San Diego County. The Foundation launched its first grant cycle in 2020. The San Diego-based Foundation considered requests from local nonprofits working in one of the following areas: medical research, health care, higher education, visual and performing arts, youth development, and animal conservation. The Foundation considered requests for general operating funds, program support, technology/equipment, scholarship funds, new strategic initiatives, capital campaigns/project, and multiyear grants. It did not consider requests for grants from or to individuals, endowments or endowment campaigns, debt retirement or to cover past operating deficits, private foundations or other regranting organizations, special event or gala sponsorship, or any type of activity intended to support candidates for political office or influence legislation or for religious or doctrinal purposes. Although the Foundation will make grants to organizations in other parts of the country, it rarely will approve unsolicited applications from beyond San Diego County.
