Description

Founded by the band, Phish, the Foundation offers grants to schools and nonprofits that focus on music education for children. The Foundation is particularly interested in projects that encourage and foster creative expression in all musical forms, and encourages applications associated with diverse or unusual musical styles, genres, and philosophies. Music education may include the provision of instruments, texts, and office materials, as well as the support of learning space, performance space, and instruction. The Foundation generally targets programs for children up to 18 years f age, but will consider programs that benefit college students, teachers, or adult students. Priority is given to programs that benefit disenfranchised groups, including those with low skill levels, income or education; those with disabilities or terminal illnesses; those in foster homes, hospital, prisons, or other remote or isolated situations. The Foundation differs from other foundations in that it believes that music itself matters, direct experience is best, underserved niches are great, unconventional outlets are interesting, and outcomes may not be accessible.
