DescriptionThe Organization provides financial assistance and support to pet guardians and survivors of domestic violence; funds to board pets whose owners are escaping violence; life-saving veterinary care for families in need; emergency shelter options to keep animals and owners together; and grants to help organizations feed hungry pets. The Organizationís Domestic Violence Safe Housing grants enable domestic violence shelters to create pet-friendly programs to help survivors and their pets escape abuse together. Grants are offered throughout the country in the On-site, Off-site and Startup categories. Shelters in Hawaii, Maine, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and West Virginia are especially encouraged to apply since there are currently no pet-friendly domestic violence shelters in these states.
