Description

The Foundation, founded by a grandson of L.L. Bean, is dedicated to advancing ideas and opportunities that can improve the lives of disadvantaged people in Maine. The Foundation’s Direct Services grants supports nonprofits throughout the state that work to address the immediate basic needs of low-income Mainers (food, shelter, clothing, physical and mental health, transportation, etc.). While the Foundation will continue to award the Direct Services grants, it intends to achieve lasting, far-reaching results by improving educational achievement for young Maine children; promote successful transitions to adulthood for vulnerable older youth; help struggling families to succeed; and enable low-income seniors to remain in their own homes as long as they possibly can. Organizations that wish to bring specific ideas to the Foundation’s attention are welcome to send a brief letter of inquiry. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
