Shell Marine Habitat Program

Category

: Environment

Description

The Program, a partnership between Shell Oil Company and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, provides grants for projects that benefit marine habitat in and around the Gulf of Mexico. The program’s project area includes the gulf coasts of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the gulf coast of Florida from Tampa north and west through the Panhandle. The Program’s focus is on wetland conservation and restoration. Of particular interest are projects that protect or restore estuarine habitat, those that provide opportunities for hands-on participation of volunteers, and those in areas where Shell has facilities. Also of interest are education programs that minimize harm from monofilament entanglements and other human impacts. The Program will give priority to those projects that build new or enhance existing partnerships and that address conservation needs of species characteristic of southeastern U.S. marine ecosystems. All grants require a minimum of a 1:1 match of cash or contributed goods and services and a match of over 2:1 is encouraged. An online pre-proposal form is available. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
