The Foundation’s core program areas are world development, the environment, child development, and the country of Wales. Under the environment, the Foundation works to halt the decline of fish stocks that communities in developing countries rely on and those working to bring about sustainable fisheries in Wales. The Foundation’s Marine Program supports practical local projects and strategic initiatives. Local projects include the development of marine protected areas or sustainable fisheries management; addressing local causes of over-exploitation of fish stocks and other seafood; and the creation of sustainable livelihoods for coastal and seafood dependent people. Strategic projects include those working on international or regional marine policy; campaigning for improved practices in commerce; exploring different fishing practices and techniques; and improving information exchange to eradicate illegal unreported and unregulated fishing. The Foundation is based in Wales, but awards grants in both the United Kingdom and worldwide. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
