DescriptionThe Foundation seeks to expand the audience for literature in America as well as promoting the best of American literature through the National Book Awards. Through its Innovations in Reading Prize, the Foundation recognizes individuals and institutions that have developed particularly innovative methods of creating and sustaining a lifelong habit of reading. Through the Prize, the Foundation seeks applications from individuals and institutions that can demonstrate a commitment to literature and the promotion of reading for its own sake. Criteria include creativity, risk taking, and a visionary quality as well as a novel way of presenting books and literature. Priority will be given to applications featuring an interdisciplinary approach and innovative thinking with respect to design, technology, social change, social entrepreneurship, or other aspects.
