Description

The Foundation’s Research in Sustainable Solid Waste Management grants supports research projects related to sustainable solid waste management practices, including waste minimization; recycling; waste conversion to energy, biofuels, chemicals, or other useful products; strategies to promote diversion to higher and better uses (for example: organics diversion, market analysis, optimized material management, logistics, etc.); and landfilling. The Foundation defines solid waste as municipal solid waste (for example: residential, commercial, institutional); construction and demolition debris; certain industrial wastes (for example: exploration and production waste, coal ash) and other wastes not typically managed by the solid waste industry or generated by the public such as electronic waste, disaster debris and other waste.
