National Endowment For Democracy

DescriptionThe Endowment is dedicated to the growth and strengthening of democratic institutions around the world. The Endowment annually makes grants in support of the projects of nongovernmental groups abroad that are working for democratic goals in over 90 countries. Funded projects include those that advance democratic goals and strengthen democratic institutions. Of particular interest are those programs that seek to promote and defend human rights and the rule of law, support freedom of information and independent media, and promote accountability and transparency. Applicants must be nongovernmental organizations, including civic organizations, independent media, and other similar groups. Particular interest is given to organizations working in diverse environments including newly established democracies, semi-authoritarian countries, highly repressive societies, and countries undergoing democratic transition.
