The Weeden Foundation
Category: Environment
DescriptionThe Foundation’s primary mission is to protect biodiversity. It has helped preserve more than 6 million acres of biologically important habitat nationwide. The Foundation currently has four geographic focus areas: Klamath-Siskiyou Bioregion in Northern California; High Divide in Southwest Montana; Altai Republic in Russia; and Chilean Patagonia. Within these focus areas, the Foundation is working to protect old-growth forests, expand habitats for endangered species on public and private lands; and link key wildlife corridors. At the U.S. national policy level, the Foundation supports advocacy for wildlife corridors; the Endangered Species Act; and additional wilderness designations. In addition, the Foundation has consumption and population programs to address the adverse impact of growing human populations and overuse of natural resources on biodiversity and environmental education grants to support K-12 and college-level environmental programs. The Foundation is also interested in family planning and other interventions necessary to lower birthrates. The Foundation requires that new applicants submit a letter of inquiry. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
