Local Initiatives Support Corporation
The Corporation has partnered with the NFL Foundation on the sportsí organizationís Grassroots Program. The Program seeks to address the shortage of clean, safe, and accessible football fields in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods. The Programís goal is to provide nonprofit, neighborhood-based organizations with financial and technical assistance to improve the quality, safety, and accessibility of local football fields. The Program has two levels of support: General Field Support (grants of up to $50,000), which is awarded for capital projects not associated with the actual field surface, including the installation/refurbishment of bleachers, concession stands, lights, irrigation systems, etc.; and the Field Surface Grants (grants of up to $250,000), which help to finance the resurfacing of a community, middle school, or high school football field and/or the installation of synthetic sports turf. A smaller number of matching grants of up to $100,000 are available to help finance the resurfacing of a community, middle school, or high school football field with natural grass or a sod surface. Eligible applicants must be a community-based nonprofit or middle or high school. Organizations applying for funds must be located within an NFL target market and serve low-to-moderate income areas within that market. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
