Description

The Foundation was created to improve the lives of others and the world in which we live. Founded by the late biotechnology pioneer and entrepreneur James LeVoy Sorenson and his wife, education philanthropist Beverley Taylor Sorenson, the Foundation provides support for a wide range of endeavors, from community development and education to health care, scientific, and artistic pursuits. The Foundation supports endeavors that encourage and support the long-term preservation and enhancement of the quality of life of all humankind, especially of families and children; assist the disenfranchised of society, such as but not limited to, abused spouses and children; promote medical research and the development of innovative medical technologies for saving lives and alleviating pain and suffering; promote the development of the arts, including art education in schools, assisting promising young artists and supporting performing arts organizations. In addition, the Foundation supports endeavors that promote community development and security, adequate and affordable housing, and education and job training; promote law and order and provide youth with alternatives to gangs, crime, and socially nonproductive behavior; protect and enhance the environment, preserve wild and open spaces, and promote the development of parks and green spaces as well as promote the development of science, culture, and recreation. The Foundation also promotes world peace and unity through a greater understanding, tolerance, and harmony among religious, national, and ethnic groups; advance the programs at private and state universities and colleges that are consistent with the Foundation’s charter; and advance the mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in all its places.
