The Foundation was created by one of the founders of the F.W. Woolworth Company. The Foundation awards grants to a wide range of nonprofits in the areas of education, health and medicine, the arts and humanities, civic and public affairs, as well as religious, welfare, and youth organizations. The Foundation supports a number of national medical research and service e organizations and public policy organizations espousing the Foundation’s fundamental beliefs. Community service organizations, drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs, volunteer service programs, youth and other local organizations outside geographic areas of particular interest are unlikely to receive grants as are churches, hospitals, schools, and colleges, other than those attended or used by members of the family. Unsolicited requests should come in the form of a letter of inquiry. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
