DescriptionThe Foundation furthers the philanthropic legacy of the founder of the Dexter Shoe Company, a longtime supporter of Maine communities in which he and his family worked and lived. Grants are awarded to Maine organizations in the following categories: education, health care, and youth development. Education grants support capital, endowment, scholarship and programmatic grants to public and private colleges and universities and to private secondary schools. Health care grants support capital campaigns to improve health care and educational institutions which further health care education. Youth development grants support organizations whose missions it is to inspire and empower youth through education, leadership, sports and recreation, and summer camp programs. The Foundation also supports other community organizations consistent with the founder’s pattern of giving. Additional information including an online application can be found on the Web site.
