Polk Brothers Foundation
Category: Regional
DescriptionThe Foundation was established by the siblings connected to the Polk Bros. chain of retail furniture and appliance stores that were once located in Chicago. The Foundation funds organizations located within the city of Chicago. Rare exceptions are made when services are provided in the Chicago area and Chicago residents make up the majority of the total population served by the organization and at least 80 percent of those served by the program for which support is requested. Grants are awarded to programs and projects that reduce the impact of poverty and provide Chicago-area residents with better access to quality education, preventive health care, and basic human services. Priority is given to critical services and programs that impact populations of need -- particularly public school children and their families -- in underserved Chicago communities. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
