Description

The Foundation is the largest funder of civil legal services in the District of Columbia. Its mission is to fund, support, and improve legal representation of the poor, vulnerable, and otherwise disadvantaged in the District. The Foundation is committed to the vision that District residents have equal access to justice, regardless of income. The Foundation has issued a request for proposal for foreclosure prevention programs and community redevelopment legal assistance provided by DC-based legal aid organizations that serve low-income DC residents. Part of a settlement between the Department of Justice and Citigroup over mortgage-related litigation, funds for the programs are intended for legal aid organizations that serve low-income residents. The DC Bar Foundation was one of 12 receiving funds for civil legal aid to the poor. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
