Description

The Foundation, which plans to sunset in 2020, emphasizes investments that build and sustain a more effective conservation movement. The Foundation’s mission is to protect the environment of the Northwest and to build broad citizen support for conservation. The Foundation invests in nonprofits in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia in the following areas: Conservation Policy, Place-based Conservation, Conservation Capacity, Opportunity Fund, and Grassroots Fund. Grants in the Conservation Policy area support projects that help achieve policy gains at the regional, state, (or provincial) and local levels that ensure protection of the region’s air, land, and water. Place-based Conservation grants seek to achieve landscape and wildlife protection through community engagement and empowerment, specifically for the High Divide, the Crown of the Continent, and Central Oregon. The Conservation Capacity program supports efforts to improve the ability of conservationists to communicate effectively, advance legal strategies, and strengthen overall organizational capacity. The Opportunity Fund provides grants to protect critical ecosystems, impact significant conservation policy debates, or address critical organizational needs. The Grassroots Fund supports small Northwest conservation organizations confronting critical challenges in their communities. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
