Indian Land Tenure Foundation

Category

: Equality & Human Rights

Description

The Foundation is a national, community-based organization serving American Indian nations and people in the recovery and control of their rightful homelands. The Foundation works to promote education, increase cultural awareness, create economic opportunity, and reform the legal and administrative systems that prevent Indian people from owing and controlling reservation lands. The Foundation uses both a letter of inquiry and a request for proposal process, which focuses on its mission and strategy. Entities eligible for funding include tribal, local, and state governments and nonprofits. Activities not eligible for funding include advocacy and lobbying efforts to influence legislation, endowments, land purchases, fund-raisers, walk-a-thons, telethons, galas, scholarships, direct funding to individuals, tuition, and benefits. Special events are not funded unless the event is a key strategy in a continuum of efforts to achieve community goals in the Foundation’s strategy areas. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
