Description

The Foundation was established to improve the health of Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Since 2003, the Foundation’s work has centered on advancing two priority areas: early childhood development and healthy eating/active living. The Foundation’s major philosophy and goals are: Impact, Engage, and Partner. It seeks to have its work culminate in results that improve and transform lives. Early childhood grants focus on efforts that address adolescent pregnancy, children’s physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development, and children’s relationships with families and other caregivers. Healthy eating/active living grants support the availability and affordability of fresh healthy foods. Programs will address the underlying causes of the lack of fresh, healthy foods; reduce barriers to making healthy eating decisions, and encourage connections between existing infrastructure, such as farms and schools, to help create better community access to healthy foods. On the Active Living side, The Foundation seeks to improve the health and wellness of Spartanburg County through increased physical activity. Grants work to remove barriers to engaging in physical activity, create more opportunities for active transportation and physical activity, and encourage the use of existing active transportation infrastructure and physical activity resources.
