Safeco Insurance Fund

DescriptionThe Fund supports nonprofits primarily within the states of Washington and Oregon. Grantmaking is focused on education and broad-based health and human services. The Fund makes grants for both operating and program support. Education grants seek to improve the educational achievements and opportunities for disadvantaged youth in the community and to locate and support educational programs that build on prior academic success. Priority is given to educational programs that encourage disadvantaged youth to excel academically and create opportunities for life-long success through learning. The Fund’s Basic Services Initiative grants support nonprofits that serve homeless families and individuals in need of emergency assistance. Priority for the basic services grants is given to organizations and programs committed to improving the quality of life and safety in the communities. The Fund invests most of its funding in youth with priority given to programs serving children and teenagers. In addition, the Fund favors organizations and programs that create opportunities for self-sufficiency for low-income individuals and families and people with disabilities. Organizations applying for a grant must have annual operating budgets exceeding $250,000. An online application form and additional information can be found on the Web site.
