The Wellmark Foundation
The Foundation seeks to improve the health of residents in Iowa, South Dakota, and their communities. Current funding priorities focus on prevention in two specific areas: childhood obesity prevention and community-based wellness and prevention. Funded programs should advance work in one of the following categories: Promoting Active Living and Built Environment, or Increasing Access to and Consumption of Nutritious Food. In 2014, two grant opportunities are available that support healthier communities in Iowa and South Dakota: Healthy Communities Small Grant Program and Matching Assets to Community Health (MATCH) Grant Program. These two opportunities support the same type of community projects, just at different levels and approaches. The Healthy Communities grants support smaller projects under $25,000, that address environmental factors as well as social and economic conditions of a community that affect health. The MATCH program is a challenge grant designed to bring other funders/funding to the table to support larger community health projects needing potentially higher levels of funding and/or collaboration. The deadline is for the MATCH grants. Visit the Web site to download the request for proposal.
