Description

The Fund was established by the developer or MCI, the telephone company. The Fund brings its vision of impacting lives, creating sustainable change, and empowering future generations through three grantmaking programs: health care and medical research, education, and community programs for those most vulnerable. Priority is given to programs that have demonstrated success, measurable outcomes, have a plan for sustainability, and aim to end cycles of poverty and suffering. Health care grants support programs and research projects that address the challenges and needs in cardiac healthcare. Education grants support exceptional business students through the McGowan Fellows Program and exceptional Pre-K-12 programs that creatively address current challenges in the educational system with a focus on improving retention and graduation rates in underserved or underperforming populations. Community grants address quality of life challenges for the elderly, for victims of abuse, the disabled, and those who suffer from hunger, homelessness, unemployment, or illness. Grants are awarded in specific cities in the following states: Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. All organizations applying to the Fund for the first time must submit an online letter of inquiry. Additional information can be found on the Web site.
