Description

The government Agency’s Community Forest and Open Space Conservation Program provides financial assistance grants to local governments, tribes and qualified nonprofits working to establish community forests with a focus on economic and environmental benefits, education, forest stewardship, and recreation opportunities. The Community Forest Program protects forests that are important for people and the places they call home. To be eligible, applicants must have acquired the full fee title, the land must have public access and the community must be involved in the establishment of the community forest and long-term management decisions. The program pays 50 percent of the project costs and requires a 50 percent non-federal match. Proposed Administration funding for the Program is $4 million; individual grant applications may not exceed $400,000. An application template, application forms and some additional information can be found on the Web site.
